Mechanical Engineer (R&D) – Beginning to Mid Level

 

SeaLandAire provides engineering services for data collection applications in difficult environments. We design, develop, and build products tailored to help our customers collect information from any environment, focusing on sensor systems and small unmanned vehicles. The job is fast paced. A Mechanical Engineer performs duties in planning, designing, building and testing products and other mechanically functioning equipment. The position is responsible for organizing highly complex activities in the design, development, implementation, test and maintenance of engineering projects.

 

To succeed in this role, you should have excellent attention to detail, design and analysis skills, and be able to work within a team.

 

Essential Functions

  • Researches, designs, analyses, builds and evaluates mechanical products, equipment, and systems to meet requirements.
  • Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Recommends design modifications to eliminate product or system malfunctions.
  • Develops and tests models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects and necessity of modification.
  • Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Writes performance requirements and test procedures for product development or engineering projects.
  • Provide input to written test reports and progress reports.
  • Estimate material costs, production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Interface with customers.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer generated reports. Assists drafters in developing the structural design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD).

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. 0-15 years’ experience in design engineering preferably in an R&D environment.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may have some supervisory responsibilities.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Hours are somewhat flexible and some late evenings may be required.

 

Travel

Some travel is expected for field testing, vendor selections, and customer interface.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear (sometimes in a noisy environment), sit, stand, walk, climb (occasionally), and do repetitive movements with hands.
